About me

Hello! My name is Lalo MacKenzie, Iā€™m a twenty-something Fine Artist, living, working, and learning in New York City. I began my art journey at four and my passion has never waned. Focusing mainly on large scale realism I delve into the vibrant decay of hedonistic youth culture. From topics of mental health in the digital era, virtue signaling, the Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope, socially aware rebellion, and much more. Growing up in Central Florida leading a fairly sheltered existence, I was always wildly fascinated by my more chaotic peers. Drinking, smoking, stealing, and embroiling themselves in messy echos of adult drama. It lead me to think about the ethics of pleasure and value of aesthetic beauty. My process hinges on the concept of a muse, usually beautiful young women with colorful hair and outlandish style. I adore saccharine pastel palettes and quirky 90ā€™s visual sensibilities. With each oil painting and subject I explore I hope to create more and more realistic imagery until it is indistinguishable from life and overtakes the viewer in a grand sweep.
